PMA calls for better pay for care workers

September 7th, 2022|Categories: Press Release|

AS the PMA widens its provision for training and education in the care sector - including the Excellence in Personalised Care Certificate and Senior Adult Care Worker Level 3 - it has also called for a significant increase in pay for care workers across the country. Although the PMA welcomes the government announcement to invest £500 million to develop the adult social care workforce (to train and retain talent as well as attract new staff) it believes a pay rise would make a huge difference to the whole sector. Many staff aged 23 and over are paid an hourly [...]

Onwards to Outstanding: PMA ‘brings teaching to life’ according to Good Ofsted report

June 24th, 2022|Categories: Press Release|

THE PMA - a national independent learning provider - is delighted to announce it has received a ‘Good’ across every aspect of its recent Ofsted education inspection. The Ofsted report states: “Leaders have a sound rationale for how to meet the skills requirements of the employers they serve. They provide an ambitious curriculum that is aligned to sustainable career pathways for the healthcare sector’s non-clinical workforce. “Tutors effectively plan and coordinate on and off-the-job training with apprentices managers. Managers routinely plan opportunities for apprentices to practise and hone their skills at work. “A large proportion of apprentices complete additional learning [...]

‘Stress and exhaustion’ causing Practice staff to leave their job

May 4th, 2022|Categories: Press Release|

A large number of non-clinical Practice staff are likely to quit their jobs within the next few years, according to the PMA.  The news will come as no surprise to GPs – with 33% likely to also leave their roles within five years, according to findings from the University of Manchester’s GP worklife survey.  In GPs over 50 the figure was 61%; among GPs under 50, one in every six (16%) said they were planning to leave.  Unrealistic workloads, confrontational patients with unrealistic demands, far too much pressure, and unfair media spotlighting has meant that Practices right across the [...]

April 9th, 2022|Categories: Press Release|

As the Kickstart Scheme finishes, PMA has been reflecting on one of its biggest success stories that has been life-changing for one young kickstarter.  Matthew Cornish, 27, has cerebral palsy. After many disappointments, he was beginning to think he would never get a job – or even an interview – when he managed to secure a role via the Kickstart Scheme at West Pottergate Surgery in Norwich in August last year.  “For many years I felt I was unemployable, having been continually rejected for jobs ever since leaving school,” said Matthew.  “So it was very refreshing to find an [...]
