The PMA is the representative body for all managers and non-clinical workers across the Health and Social Care sectors – providing both professional recognition and professional development support.

The PMA was founded to provide the non-clinical workforce and management in primary care with a comprehensive selection of self-development tools and support services. It has now reached a UK-wide membership of over 50,000 and is a constantly growing, vibrant community of both clinical and non-clinical members.

Make your voice count. As a collective, we can drive change for the better.

The PMA is a UK-wide membership body, working closely with many organisations across the Primary Care and the wider health and social care sectors – providing continuous support to NHS England, NHS Digital, NHSx, HEE, RCGP, Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and others.

The PMA developed an initial series of non-clinical workshops for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), all with a strong business focus, providing GPs with the commercial insight required for modern NHS surgeries. We now work with the CCGs, Training Hubs, LMCs and Care Homes to create support services and resources for practices and care homes to develop their staff – not only to improve efficiency and effectiveness but also to make individuals feel valued and recognised.

Professional recognition is key to a vibrant membership community. PMA has invested heavily in training and other support services specifically tailored to the needs of PMA members. These include a vast array of professional workshops, Diplomas at Level 3, Level 5 and Level 7, accredited e-Learning programmes, apprenticeship standards and delivery of an array of webinars, podcasts, consultancy and conference management services.

PMA services are continually evolving and adapting. Most recently, PMA’s Kickstart Scheme has launched to help you understand how you might benefit from the Chancellor’s new £2bn investment. The PMA has been appointed by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) as a Gateway provider for this UK-wide initiative (excluding Northern Ireland). We are now accepting applications from employers for one or more placements on the PMA Kickstart Scheme.

The PMA is approved by The Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and is on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP). The PMA also has Skills for Health – Quality Mark full endorsement, Skills for Care, Matrix Standard Accreditation, and is an ILM and City & Guilds Approved Centre and providers of excellence in primary care workforce development. And we also hold Cyber Essentials accreditation, giving you the confidence that any data shared with the PMA is secure.

In addition to PMA free membership, you can now pay an annual subscription of £295 to become a PMA Premium Member and enjoy many additional services and benefits.

You can now also apply FREE to join the PMA as a Professional Member – to gain recognition of your professional status in management across the health and social care sector.

Don’t just take our word for it…

“Each session was well presented and full of useful information. Most notably Practice Managers who had been in the industry a long time felt these sessions highlighted a number of issues and gave lots of ideas and information to help with the day to day running of the practice. Also appreciated was the opportunity to network and gain insight and learning throughout this.”

“Just wanted to say what a truly fantastic job the PMA are doing. It’s so brilliant to be finally recognised for the professionals we are and to find such genuine interest in our role and future. Every session has been valuable – both in providing new information and ideas, but also helping me realise how much we are actually doing right already.”

“Those leading the courses had a high level of expertise in their subject matter which meant that they were able to deal with queries as well as deliver the core agenda, and the courses were very well tailored to the audience, so they were extremely relevant.”

“PMA’s model of recruiting experts in different fields to deliver focused training within the PMA framework is one that has been met with much approval amongst practice managers in the London Borough of Lewisham. Lewisham CEPN will be escalating the evaluation summary to HEE, with our recommendation that they consider commissioning at scale.”
