PMA will conduct its business in such a way as to prevent pollution, minimise as far as reasonably practicable the adverse impact of its activities on the environment, continually improve its performance against targets associated with its significant environmental aspects, and comply with all applicable environmental legislation. It will work to increase awareness of environmental responsibility amongst its staff and learners and embed sustainable thinking into organisational culture and decision-making.
Waste Reduction
PMA commits to always consider the waste hierarchy when managing all waste it produces (i.e. prevent, prepare for reuse, recycle, recover, dispose to landfill). PMA will work with staff, learners and suppliers to reduce waste at source and promote responsible disposal
practices.
Consumption of Utilities
PMA will reduce the consumption of energy and reduce our contribution to fossil fuel emissions by monitoring and managing our use of utilities, promoting energy-saving behaviours amongst staff and learners, and incorporating long-term strategies for efficiency and sustainability into planning and development. We will aim to continually reduce our carbon footprint and report progress against agreed targets annually.
Transportation
PMA will monitor and work to reduce its contribution to environmental emissions from travel undertaken for business purposes and will actively encourage the use of alternative travel options such as public transport and car sharing or avoiding travel using MS Teams/Zoom or other electronic communication systems. Where travel is essential, PMA will encourage low-emission or sustainable transport options where practicable.
Working from Home
Throughout the pandemic, PMA encouraged staff to work from home wherever possible. This ensured the health and safety of staff and significantly reduced travel and commuting emissions. This resulted in long-term behavioural change, and PMA now has a hybrid working model with all the team working from home thereby continuing to reduce carbon emissions and enabling more sustainable operations.
Service Delivery
PMA has transitioned its workshop delivery model from 100% face-to-face to a predominantly virtual format. Since May 2020, PMA has delivered 95% of workshops virtually using MS Teams, Zoom and GoToWebinar platforms. This trend will continue for 2026 and beyond, where suitable, significantly reducing travel-related environmental impact.
Procurement
PMA will purchase goods and services in ways that minimise adverse environmental effects by considering sustainable procurement, avoiding the use of hazardous substances wherever possible, and using suppliers committed to improving environmental performance and demonstrating responsible environmental standards.
Targets
PMA will review environmental targets regularly. This policy is to be reviewed every year or earlier if legislation or organisational practices change.
