Winners revealed
THE annual PMA Awards ceremony has taken place at the 2023 Best Practice Show hosted at the NEC in Birmingham last week.
Thousands of healthcare professionals attended the show across two days, which included presentations on many issues in primary care, including Managing Stress and Burnout in the Workplace, the impact of the ARRs roles, Care Navigation – The Future of Primary Care access, and how to retain employees and boost morale in general practice.
It was standing room only at a packed PMA Theatre as the prestigious award ceremony began, celebrating excellence in management across all areas of the healthcare sector.
Following hundreds of nominations and some very tough decisions for the judging panel, the PMA award winners received their accolades – including Sophia Raja taking PCN Manager of the Year and Andy Adams, of Quantock Vale Surgery, and Sumayya Mayat, of Shifa Surgery, jointly winning the title of PMA Practice Manager of the Year.

It was Sarah Rhodes-Bickerdyke, of the Avicenna Medical Practice, who collected PMA Practice Business Manager of the Year and Vikki Hogger, of Holderness Health, who won PMA Administration/Reception Manager of the Year.
This year’s winner of the Outstanding Contribution to General Practice award was presented to Lincoln House Surgery in Hemel Hempstead. Linda Marquis, of Mundesley Medical Centre in Norwich, was highly commended.
And finally, the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Catherine Higgett, of Prospect Surgery in Middlesborough, for her outstanding and sustained contributions to the Healthcare sector.
Sophia Raja, of MOBY PCN, was delighted to win PCN Manager of the Year and told us: “Literally, the whole city is celebrating with me! The last few years have been incredibly tough, however receiving this prestigious award has made all the late nights and sacrifices worth it – it’s been the ‘pick me up’ I so desperately needed.”
Ian Jones, PMA Director, added: “The quality of the nominations this year has been incredible. Across all categories – the winners and those highly commended – have shown a dynamic input to their practice, their PCN or other healthcare settings.”
“It’s vital we continue to celebrate our successes in Primary Care!”
Headline sponsor for this year’s PMA Awards at Best Practice was Henry Schein Medical.
