This interactive half-day workshop focuses on the mental health challenges associated with later life, specifically exploring Depression, Dementia, and Delirium (the “3Ds”). Healthcare professionals will gain an understanding of the biological, cognitive, and psychological changes that accompany ageing, alongside practical skills to recognise and manage these conditions in older adults. The workshop emphasises a person-centred approach to enhance patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:
- Understand the biological, cognitive, and psychological aspects of ageing and their impact on mental health.
- Recognise and address depression in older adults, understanding the associated risks and screening tools.
- Support individuals living with dementia through person-centred care, focusing on dignity and communication.
- Differentiate between delirium and dementia, ensuring early recognition and appropriate management.
- Identify the interconnectedness of depression, dementia, and delirium and implement holistic care plans.
- Apply workshop learning to clinical practice, improving care for older adults with mental health conditions.
