This practical workshop is designed to provide healthcare professionals with essential skills in intravenous (IV) cannulation.
The course is ideal for providers involved in services like therapeutic vitamin drips, fluid replacement, and blood donation. It covers both the historical and modern techniques, equipment, site selection, and governance required for safe and effective IV cannulation. Participants will learn to apply the aseptic no-touch technique (ANTT) and gain insights into potential complications through interactive learning and a clinical quiz.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Gain an understanding of the evolution of IV cannulation equipment, from historical to modern-day tools.
- Learn how to select appropriate IV insertion sites for various clinical purposes.
- Master the principles of the aseptic no-touch technique (ANTT) to minimise infection risks.
- Recognise potential complications related to IV cannulation and understand best practices for governance and patient safety.
- Apply theoretical knowledge through a practical quiz to enhance understanding and readiness.
