This workshop on Advanced Clinical Skills in Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease aims to equip healthcare professionals in the Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions workforce with advanced knowledge and skills necessary to assess and manage patients with hypertension and cardiovascular conditions.

Delegates will explore pathophysiology, assessment techniques, treatment options, self-care management, and ECG interpretation to enhance their clinical practice.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease: Describe the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of hypertension, Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS), and heart failure.
  • Evaluate Cardiovascular Assessments: Utilise advanced clinical skills to conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments and understand the complexities involved in practice.
  • Explore Treatment Options: Analyse pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options for common cardiovascular conditions and their impact on patient outcomes.
  • Understand Self-Care Management: Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of self-care management principles and personalise support for patients managing long-term cardiovascular conditions.
  • Interpret ECGs: Accurately interpret common arrhythmias and myocardial infarction on a 12-lead ECG, applying findings to clinical decision-making.
