This is a comprehensive workshop designed to enhance your proficiency as a health coach within the NHS. Throughout this engaging session, participants will delve into various facets of health coaching, gaining valuable insights and skills essential for effective personalised care.

The workshop commences with introductions and an open forum, encouraging participants to share their objectives, challenges, and concerns. We will explore the concept of personalised care in the NHS, focusing on its implications and the role of health coaching within the broader framework of primary care.

Distinguishing between coaching, social prescribing, mentoring, counselling, and Motivational Interviewing, we’ll emphasise the coaching mindset and key attributes essential for effective health coaching. Participants will gain an understanding of health behaviour change, strengths/asset-based approaches, and the importance of teach-back techniques.

During the session, we’ll tackle practical considerations such as patient referral processes, building trust and rapport, and recognising the limitations of coaching while exploring alternative options. Engage in hands-on exercises to refine coaching techniques, including coaching versus directive language, active and empathetic listening, effective questioning, and motivational interviewing.

The T-GROW model will be thoroughly explained, with participants having the opportunity to practice and receive feedback on each aspect. As we progress, the workshop will cover coaching for specific patient communities and long-term conditions through paired exercises.

Explore the varied environments of health coaching, including face-to-face, phone, and online channels. Practical sessions will address coaching techniques in group settings, ensuring participants gain a versatile skill set.

The workshop will also spotlight the vital role of health coaching in self-management support, emphasising collaboration techniques and professionalism. Discussions on non-judgmental attitudes, equality and diversity, emotional resilience, and confidentiality principles will further enhance your coaching practice.

At the PMA we pride ourselves on the understanding that one size doesn’t fit all and – therefore, we have various formats of our workshops and can adapt any programme / agenda to suit your local needs and necessaries – so, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
