Patient Safety

The Caring with Kindness workshop is designed for the Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions (AHP) workforce, including support workers, senior support workers, assistants, and assistant practitioners. This 4-hour session focuses on integrating kindness, compassion, and empathy into patient care. Through interactive sessions, storytelling, and reflective activities, participants will explore how these values not only enhance patient experience and safety but also contribute to staff wellbeing, performance, and inclusive workplace cultures.

The programme emphasises practical techniques to cultivate self-compassion, engage in meaningful conversations with patients, and address systemic barriers that may hinder compassionate care. Participants will leave with actionable strategies to practice kind and compassionate leadership in their everyday roles.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  • Engage with evidence on the importance of kindness and compassion in improving patient outcomes, staff wellbeing, and fostering inclusive healthcare cultures.
  • Reflect on their own leadership behaviours and identify opportunities to model kindness and compassion within their teams.
  • Practice everyday techniques to develop self-compassion and demonstrate kindness towards colleagues and patients.
  • Recognise human and cultural factors that influence patient care and discuss how to address biases and barriers.
  • Identify systemic challenges that prevent kindness and compassion in healthcare and explore strategies to overcome these obstacles.
  • Develop a personal plan for kind and compassionate leadership that they can apply in their roles to enhance patient and team experiences.

At the PMA we pride ourselves on the understanding that one size doesn’t fit all and – therefore, we have various formats of our workshops and can adapt any programme / agenda to suit your local needs and necessaries – so, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
