This is an intensive web workshop for those in practice management leadership roles who wish to explore and understand the impact they can make on those around them to develop better practices. All participants will discover things about themselves and gain a fundamental insight into how they can have a greater impact. They will explore some of the critical issues that are associated with influencing a community of people to move towards higher objectives.

The web workshop will provide business insight and leadership training in the skills required to manage yourself and other people and demonstrates how excellent leadership transforms organisations. There are major challenges facing the leaders of today who seek to shape organisations for tomorrow. New models of leadership are emerging to address these challenges, and these developments require a different approach.

The focus will be on being the best leader you can be with a focus on how to demonstrate leadership and management of people. You will discover how to get maximum performance from your team, exploring motivation, influence and balancing the potential conflicts arising from the need for both creativity and consistency. We will also investigate the cause of and solutions to under-performance.

The constant change in the primary care environment means that the most effective leaders will be those who develop their leadership and management skills, and then continually seek to enhance their knowledge, develop their understanding and skills and apply these skills throughout their journey. The focus of the day is very much about leadership and the management of people.

At the PMA we pride ourselves on the understanding that one size doesn’t fit all and – therefore, we have various formats of our workshops and can adapt any programme / agenda to suit your local needs and necessaries – so, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Workshop Outcomes

The core objectives of the web workshop, are to enable practice managers to have:

  • A clear and confident grasp of their leadership style through achieving enhanced self-awareness of their strengths and how you can build on them.
  • Understanding the implications for individual development and organisational change.
  • Apply the knowledge and skills learned, to develop their own employee’s and colleagues’ performance and wellbeing, as well as the growth or change of the organisation.
  • Understand the art of influencing and negotiation
  • Consider the impact of change and what happens if it isn’t managed well
  • Look at how to manage resistance to change by identifying the reasons for this and reinforcing that this is a natural reaction.

Additional information

Practice leadership and management are directly related to human behaviour and interactions, consequently, at the PMA we also look outside the healthcare sector and make valuable use of the best models, concepts and principles available.  The web workshop will be delivered as an interactive session with practical guidance to enable participants to map the techniques onto their own practice. Case studies will be used to provide tips and insights on good practice. Group work is provided on all aspects of the programme so that participants develop their understanding of the topics by interacting with colleagues from other practices.

At the PMA we work hard to ensure that this content is delivered interactively, to ensure that you can effectively apply what you learn back in the practice. Our expert facilitators will enable you to explore how teams develop, what the members of a team require and why things can go wrong. You will identify your personal leadership and management style, to recognise the impact that this may have in different situations and introduce you to concepts that will support you in becoming more flexible.

Influence and negotiation skills are prerequisites in the skill mix for effective leaders. Difficult conversations are common when you work with people who have different interests, needs, or even priorities. The focus is on improving your ability to deal with the challenges. The delegates will consider the way they currently approach these situations and how they might be able to better resolve them. Negotiation and diplomacy are key attributes; we will explore where we all often go wrong and then some approaches that might be deployed to reach better outcomes.

Creative tension and difficult conversations are all around us in general practice. You might ask, why do they become problematic in the first place?  How can you avoid this and take simple steps to encourage more constructive interactions? What are the triggers that move difficult conversations into situations where there is conflict – and how can we better understand the behaviours to avoid?

Change is the final topic… We will focus on what is change and how to develop a change management approach to ensure buy-in across the GP Practice. How to track and control the change plan; managing the people and organisational aspects of change; communicating and selling the change to others; recognising why people fear change and react the way they do through change models. Understanding the importance of communication in the change process and how to sustain the change momentum. Delegates will learn how to plan, communicate and manage change, understanding the impact it could have on all employees and the team.

We will then map out an Action Plan so that all delegates take away their route map for success – they will understand where they currently are and where they need to be, and they will know what that journey might look like, timeframes and what and who they will need to achieve their goals.

All delegates will receive a comprehensive workbook together with supplementary materials and slides ahead of the session.
