This in-depth workshop is designed to equip healthcare professionals with advanced knowledge of electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation, focusing on various heart conditions that can affect cardiac function.

The course delves into electrophysiological processes, conduction pathways, and the impact of pacemakers, ischemia, and inflammation on heart rhythms. Participants will gain the skills needed to identify complex arrhythmias and tissue disorders, culminating in a clinical quiz to solidify learning.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand normal and abnormal sinus rhythms, including atrial fibrillation and flutter.
  • Accurately interpret ECG readings, focusing on normal limits and intervals.
  • Identify a variety of arrhythmias and their significance.
  • Recognise tissue disorders such as ischemia and inflammation through ECG patterns.
  • Apply their knowledge in a practical clinical setting through an interactive quiz.

At the PMA we pride ourselves on the understanding that one size doesn’t fit all and – therefore, we have various formats of our workshops and can adapt any programme / agenda to suit your local needs and necessaries – so, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Who should attend?

Don't miss opportunity to work with leading specialists in a series of full day workshops specifically focused on the ‘business’ aspects of General Practice.
  • Healthcare professionals

Workshop Agenda

Below is an outline of the proposed agenda, if you have any questions please get in touch.

 Introduction and Welcome
Introduction to ECG Interpretation

  • Overview of ECG basics and their significance in clinical practice
  • Understanding the electrophysiological process of the heart
Sinus Rhythm and Atrial Fibrillation/Flutter

  • Differentiating between normal sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter
  • Clinical implications of abnormal rhythms
Normal Limits and Intervals

  • Analysing ECG components: P wave, QRS complex, T wave, and PR and QT intervals
  • Recognising variations in normal and abnormal intervals
Arrhythmias

  • Detailed study of common and complex arrhythmias (ventricular tachycardia, atrial arrhythmias, etc.)
  • Impact of pacemakers on rhythm interpretation (Pacemaker function and how to identify pacing ECGs)
Tissue Disorders (Ischaemia, Inflammation)

  • Identifying ischemic changes such as ST elevation, T wave inversion, and pathological Q waves
  • Understanding how inflammation affects ECG readings
Clinical Presentations Quiz

  • Interactive case-based quiz to apply and reinforce ECG interpretation skills
  • Discussion of clinical scenarios and ECG findings
