This 5-hour workshop on Advanced Clinical Skills in Respiratory Conditions is designed for healthcare professionals in the Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professions workforce. By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

    • Explain the pathophysiology and clinical presentations of common respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and interstitial lung disease.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Respiratory Assessments:
    • Perform a thorough respiratory assessment, including history taking, physical examination, and the use of diagnostic tools.
    • Identify and interpret key signs and symptoms through auscultation and other assessment techniques.
  • Evaluate Pharmacological Treatments:
    • Summarise the common medications used in managing respiratory conditions, including bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics.
    • Discuss the mechanisms of action, indications, contraindications, and potential side effects of these medications.
  • Implement Non-Pharmacological Treatments:
    • Identify and apply non-pharmacological interventions such as pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, and oxygen therapy.
    • Understand the impact of nutrition and exercise on the management of respiratory conditions.
  • Provide Personalised Patient Support:
    • Recognise the importance of patient-centred care and develop personalized support strategies for patients with respiratory conditions.
    • Implement effective approaches to assist patients during exacerbations and in long-term management.
  • Promote Self-Care Management:
    • Understand the principles of self-care management and its relevance in respiratory care.
